Infrastructure sustainability – the Olympics legacy

November 2010

Manidis Roberts, with our partners, COX Architecture and Australian Green Infrastructure Council (AGIC) are presenting a series of exciting events, master classes and workshops, to showcase innovations in sustainable infrastructure and urban regeneration driven by Olympics events.

Four key events are being held for infrastructure leaders in the energy, water, transport, property and communications sectors in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney. The events will be held in conjunction with the publishing of our though-piece – 'Games Legacy – Creating New Benchmarks in Infrastructure Sustainability'. The guest speaker will be Mr. Dan Epstein, head of Sustainable Development and Regeneration for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).

These events will be centred on the Olympics as a catalyst of change. Questions to be raised include:

  • What are the legacy issues for host cities and nations?
  • What can we expect from the London Olympics in 2012?
  • How can we draw on the lessons learned now, and make sure the benefits are fully realised?

Through interviews with individuals involved in delivering the Olympics in Australia and internationally, and with guest speakers like Dan Epstein, we examine what’s changed in the world of infrastructure sustainability and what is being done to set the new benchmark.
