The ACT Government has recently sought a solution to the long-term security of water supply to Canberra. Severe drought conditions have escalated the need for comprehensive forward planning.

The water security program includes a number of projects and measures to ensure a safe, secure and sustainable water supply for the nation’s capital. Projects include enlarging the Cotter Dam, increasing water extraction from the Murrumbidgee River, transferring water from Tantangra Dam and the construction of a demonstration water purification plant.

Manidis Roberts manages the stakeholder and community engagement on these projects as an integral part of the ACTEW team. We also undertake the environmental assessment and approvals for the NSW sections of the program.

Key achievements include

  • Gathering and inputting community and stakeholder views and preferences into the key ‘water security recommendations’ process.
  • Developing stakeholder strategies for each project and the program as a whole.
  • Being an integral part of the tender selection process for private sector partners to design and construct the projects.
  • Developing and establishing stakeholder databases to improve customer communications.
