Googong is a new master-planned town for a population of some 18,000 people. The vision is for a new, vibrant and sustainable community with an economic town centre and strong sense of place. It is the most significant urban development project undertaken by Canberra Investment Corporation to date. Key challenges have been planning for long-term water sustainability and designing for reduced car dependency.

Manidis Roberts provided the overall sustainability direction to the project team including a strategy for achieving realistic sustainable outcomes, and managed the feasibility studies on which the project is based. We have also managed the planning of all infrastructure, including utilities and social infrastructure.

Key achievements include

  • Gaining approvals under NSW legislation for a town and infrastructure predominantly linked to the ACT.
  • Identifying realistic and achievable initiatives for a truly sustainable development.
  • Developing innovative solutions for water cycle management.
