The Hume Highway Duplication project involved duplicating the remaining 47 kilometres of single carriageway highway between the Sturt Highway and Table Top in southern NSW. The project has been jointly funded by the NSW State Government (Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA)) and Federal Government (Department of Infrastructure, Transports, Regional Development and Local Government).

This was the RTA’s first complete project to be subject to Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act. The project required careful consideration of key environment matters including the assessment of critically endangered ecological communities and significant heritage landscapes, and working within substantial water resource constraints.

Manidis Roberts and its project partners jointly prepared three environmental assessment reports for the Hume Highway Duplication – Northern Package to obtain Part 3A planning approval within the tight timeframe desired by the client.

Key achievements included

  • Developing the assessment methodologies for the first Part 3A approval for the RTA.
  • A program and project plan that delivered fast track approvals.
  • Quickly developing an integrated project team with our project partners for outstanding results.
  • Developing a revised consultation strategy that is now used as a benchmark within the RTA.
