The Northside Storage Tunnel is a 20 kilometre long tunnel designed to capture wet weather overflows and provide a cleaner harbour for Sydney.
The Northside Storage Tunnel Alliance successfully completed the 500 million litre capacity storage tunnel for Sydney Water by its deadline of the Sydney Olympic Games. Since it commenced operation in 2000, the tunnel has prevented over 18.5 billion litres of untreated wet weather overflows from entering Sydney Harbour.
Manidis Roberts worked with a number of private sector partners to deliver the communication and community relations strategy for the $465 million Northside Storage Tunnel. This project set outstanding performance benchmarks in community relations. It is widely recognised for successfully shifting traditional construction approaches to include community considerations.
Manidis Roberts managed and implemented the consultation and community relations activities during the Tunnel’s construction.
We provided strategic ‘whole-of-project’ communications advice, organised and facilitated regular community meetings on the sites affected by the project, organised public forums and events to increase the awareness of the project and undertook successful mediation with the Scotts Creek community on the tunnel ventilation system.
