The Energy Smart Homes Program was designed to reduce the energy requirements of new and existing homes by providing a comprehensive program for councils to implement energy-efficient housing policies. It provided detailed briefings, tailored workshops, policy development, communication materials, and training and ongoing support projecat a subsidised cost.

Councils were provided with these tools to act as agents of change in their local community and instigate energy-efficient housing initiatives that benefit the environment and the community.

The program gained key industry support to ensure delivery in partnership with the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA). Manidis Roberts, on behalf of SEDA, developed, marketed, coordinated and delivered the program to 46 NSW local councils over a period of three years. The energy smart policy and training program was an award-winning project and the first of its kind, playing a vital role in helping Australia to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Key achievements included

  • Developing an industry-tailored education package.
  • Creating unity between government and private sector for the scheme.
