Extensions to the Ultimo Pyrmont light rail line were proposed west to Lilyfield and north to Circular Quay. The extensions aimed to improve capacity and environmental performance of the public transport network, to deliver a range of urban design improvements along the route, and to add to the operational and financial viability of the existing light rail system.

Manidis Roberts was engaged by NSW Department of Transport to undertake the environmental impact statement, community consultation and stakeholder management of the proposed extension of Sydney’s Metro Light Rail network. Our consultation strategies included pioneering new techniques such as faceto- face interviews with key stakeholders and a charette process to ascertain the preferred outcomes and design details. The implementation of this inclusive and innovative consultation process ensured successful project outcomes.

Key achievements included

  • Pioneering new techniques in community stakeholder consultation including face-to-face interviews with key stakeholders.
  • Developing a charette process to determine the preferred outcomes and design details.
  • Carefully managing community consultation during construction and early operations of the line.
